Artist Signing

Larry D. Silver, President and CEO of Silver Companies is providing 10 emotionally charged oil paintings from his private collection to the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the battle. Selected Pieces from the Larry D. Silver Art Collection will be on display at the Museum from December 1st, 2012 through January 1st, 2013.

These paintings, commissioned by Larry Silver beginning in 2006 as part of the Celebrate Virginia Art project, have never before been seen by the public. The collection focuses on the history of Fredericksburg from the colonial era, including the family of George Washington, through the Civil War.

Chosen from the collection by the staff of the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center, the 10 featured paintings were created by many of the most respected historical artists in the nation including Mort Kuntsler, Don Troiani, Bradley Schmehl, Pamela Patrick White, Heide Presse, Keith Rocco, Dan Nance, and Mark Churms among others. Each work of art has been chosen for its depiction of life, death and struggle as it relates to those four critical days in 1862 that forever changed the lives and landscape of Fredericksburg.

“The Battle of Fredericksburg forever changed our area and had a lasting effect over the next century,” said Ellen Killough, President and CEO of the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center. “These pieces have never before been seen by our community, and they are a wonderful opportunity to visually experience the historic significance of this chapter in our local history.”

Several of the artists will be attending a signing event at the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center on Saturday, December 8th from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The public is invited to visit the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center to see the art as well as meet the artists in attendance. Prints, giclees, and commemorative posters will be available for purchase at the Museum during the exhibit with a significant portion of the proceeds being donated to the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center.
