Yankees in Falmouth! and Some Confederates too!!
Historic Port of Falmouth - Falmouth, VA
The sixth annual edition of "Yankees in Falmouth! and Some Confederates Too!!" is a way to learn history in an authentic environment. This free, public living history event creates an impressive encampment. This event tells of the Union troops in Falmouth on the same grounds the Union Army's occupied, during the American Civil War. This weekend-long event will be held on the grounds of the Moncure Conway House at 305 King Street with parking opposite at the Historic Port of Falmouth Park at 401 River Road.
The event schedule runs from 9:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Saturday (with a special evening cannon firing beginning at 8:30 P.M. on Saturday night). Infantry and Artillery firing demonstrations and academic presentations are a part of each day's program.
Activities begin again on Sunday beginning at 11:00 A.M. and will continue till 3:00 P.M. Weekend activities will include: an encampment, military impressions, civilian living history interpretation, rifle and cannon firing demonstrations, presentations and Civil War artifact displays.
Some of the reenacting units will portray those who encamped and quartered here. The participants will include a wide range of strictly military impressions throughout the encampment. Saturday at 3:00 P.M. a special presentation will take place, entitled "Train Ride to Freedom" in the setting of the home of one of Virginia's only public abolitionist, Moncure Conway.
