Stafford County Agricultural Fair & Hartwood Days Festival
Stafford County Agricultural Fair & Hartwood Days Festival - Fredericksburg, VA
September brings the return of the School year, and it also brings the Annual Stafford County Agricultural Fair & Hartwood Days Festival!
In this, its 14th year, this County Fair is aimed at Youth, Families and Fun, and is scheduled to run Friday the 13th, and Saturday the 14th of September! Nestled in the Hartwood District, its scope extends to the entire region, and the Board is striving to not only be inclusive of all of the Counties districts, but also to extend the Family Fun to all the residents of the county, and the region.
4-H programs will help with the Fun-ducational efforts in the Agricultural area this year, while the Parks and Recreation division will be providing multiple activities, demonstrations and services on site, to show all of the different Fun-ducational opportunities available throughout the rest of the year. And that's in addition to the regular events of the Fair, which this year will include Rides, and the Living History Area, the Agricultural Area, and the First Responders Area. In the Living History area, not to mention the exhibitors and vendors, of which many will have games for youth to play when they come by their booth.
In the Living History Area, take a "Walk Through Time" as living historians from many different era's allow you to step into that period, and talk to folks from the 'past'. What did they eat, what were their past-times, why should we learn about this time period? Ask these questions and others that you think of as you move through colonial times, the Civil War, the World Wars, and even the "coal wars". Never heard of that last one? Well make sure you go through and find out! And don't miss the free tours
The Agricultural area will again be host to the Stafford County Agricultural Competitions, and will add a Vegetable, Beef, Meat Goat, & Sheep competitions to the Poultry, Dairy Goat, and Rabbit competitions from last year. The Arts and Crafts division will add a Graphic Arts show, and Quilt display to the baked goods competition from last year, and will have art demonstrations throughout the day. Demonstrations will also be available in the First Responders area, where kids can talk to, Police, Fire, and EMS, as well as touch and learn about their equipment.
Starting in the upper field of the Main Event area, the Trailblazer Adventure Trail will return again this year, providing youth (and their parents) the opportunity to find out about outside hobbies and vocations. Kids completing all the stations will receive a FREE PATCH! Also in the Main Event Area this year will be the NOVEC Electrifying Safety show, and the US Army Adventure Trailer and the FDA Discovery Zone!
For the music lovers in the county, the Fair has added a second stage, and has Several free concerts scheduled….well Almost free! They ask that you please bring a few canned goods to donate for the area food banks, with collection points at both stages. The Hilldrup Main Stage will be active on Friday, which is billed as a family friendly night (elementary & middle school youth), and has the Saturday line up, followed by the Teen Jam Saturday Night! There's even a SON-Jam Scheduled on Sunday the 15th from 3-9 for contemporary Christian groups! The new addition this year is the Community Stage, and Entertainment Director Karen Wade is working to provide local school chorus and band groups, an opportunity to shine near the Agricultural area.
And to top all of this off, the 1st annual Miss Stafford pageant, a preliminary for the Miss Virginia Pageant, and the Miss America Pageant, will be held by the Fair, but due to the Miss America Pageant being on the same weekend as the Fair, this event will be held on Saturday> the 21st of September at the Gauntlet Golf Course in Curtis Park, without whom this year's event wouldn't be possible. The Fair is also providing this opportunity for teens and pre-teens with the Miss Stafford Outstanding Teen & pre-teen Pageant, and for little ones with the Little Miss Stafford Pageant, running during the Fair on Friday the 14th. You might even catch a glimpse of the 2010 Miss America, Mrs Caressa (Cameron) Jackson, who is the pageant producer. This years queen will also provide Stafford County with the queen for our 350th anniversary festivities in 2014!
